Day 1 - SAT - Bangkok
Welcome to Bangkok! On your first day in Indochina there are no planned activities and you will be free to fill in time the way you want. Bangkok is a huge city with plenty of possibilities of entertainment, such as massage centres, animated bars, boat trips along the canal system, magnificent temples, flea markets, unless you are just dreaming for a good reparative sleep after your long journey. In the evening, you will have a first group meeting with your tour leader before going to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner. Please check the hotel notice board for the time and place of this meeting as well as ideas of what to do in and around Bangkok.
Accommodation at New world lodge hotel, Bangkok
Day 2 - SUN - Bangkok – Siem Reap (CAMBODIA) (B / D)
Today, we will have an early breakfast before driving to the border at Aranya Pratet/Poipet, the oldest border crossing point for foreigners between Thailand and Cambodia, which opened in early 1998. From Bangkok to the Poipet border crossing takes four to five hours by aircon vehicle. After having gone through the custom, we will take a pick-up truck or a minibus to continue our journey to Siem Reap, passing by the city of Sisophon. This journey takes approximately 4-5 hours. The road, formerly in very bad condition, is now under fixing and this journey is already much shorter than before. We will arrive in Siem Reapat the end of the afternoon or in the evening for dinner. Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor and we will have two full days to enjoy the town and its surrounds.
Overnight in Siem Reap at Fresh Air Guest House or similar
Day 3 - MON – Siem Reap (Angkor) (B)
After breakfast, we will drive to the Angkor site. We will begin to explore the complex of Angkor Thom. Our visit will begin with the South Gate, a beautiful introduction to Angkor Thom with well-restored statues of asuras (demons) and gods lining the bridge. Inside the complex, we will stop at the famous Bayon, a pyramid temple decorated by about 200 gigantic carved heads. We will also visit the Royal Enclosure, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. In the morning, we will also visit Preah Khan, a labyrinth of pavilions, halls and chapels in a vast area encloses by four walls before to go to eat at a local restaurant and in the afternoon we will visit Ta Phrom, Angkor Wat and Phnom Bakheng. Ta Phrom has been largely consumed by the jungle and as you will climb through the dilapidated stone structures you will see many giant trees growing out of the top of the temple itself. At every turn you will expect to see Indiana Jones or Lara Croft step out from behind a fallen pillar. Ta Phrom looks as many of the monuments did when European explorers first laid eyes on them. Angkor Wat is the largest and most impressive of all the temples. It is the best preserved of all the temples. Its layout and its scale are simply breathtaking, the wall surrounding the enclosure measures 1,000 by 800 meters and the moat, said to represent the oceans of the world is 200 meters wide. This amazing temple homes the longest continuous bas relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls. As the end of the day will approach, we will proceed to the hilltop temple of Phnom Bakheng, climb the imposing remains and meet the crowd for a truly memorable sunset.
Overnight in Siem Reap at Fresh Air Guest House or similar
Day 4 - TUE – Siem Reap (B)
Today, we will organize a countryside tours by ox-cart. Following the picturesque road along the Siem Reap river, we will pass traditional Khmer houses, pagodas, water wheels, water buffalo and many more. The slow move of the cart will give you all the opportunity to observe the daily life in the villages and rice paddies. Then, we will go by tuktuk to the lake for a boat trip onto the Tonle Sap, the biggest lake of Southeast Asia, to visit the floating village of Chong Kneas. For lunch, we will go to our homestay to enjoy a family meal prepared by our hosts and spend a friendly moment with them. On the way back we will stop at the orphanage Krou Sa Richreay, which means "Happy Family", to bring them some basic requirement. Afterwards, you will have some free time to explore a local market, visit a traditional handicraft workshop or just relax with a drink or a blind massage. This excursion is not included on the price. If you prefer to spend another day into the temples, your guide will be pleased to help you to arrange your visit. Then we will continue to a rural village by local transport where we will meet our host family. We will have lunch at the homestay, then we will ride bicycles to go to Sambor Prei Kuk. This is the setting of the most impressive group of pre-Angkorian monuments with more than 100 small temples, scattered through the forest.

The area boasts the centuries old tradition of craft making using traditional materials such as bamboo and rattan. As these villages are very poor, we will bring some school supplies and toothbrushes to the children, and we will offer them a nice and healthy snack during the school break. Then, we will go back to the city of Kompong Thom to have lunch at Arunras restaurant. After lunch, we will drive to Phnom Penh by public bus. On the way, we will stop at the village Skun. If you are still hungry and looking for a dessert, you will get the chance to taste the local speciality, the delicious famous fried spiders (Tarantula called A ping in Khmer). Never try, never know, that’s our motto! When arriving in Phnom Penh, we will check in at our hotel and then you will have free time to relax before dinner. Tonight we will first enjoyed a drink on the roof top of FCC restaurant, a nice spot to enjoy a whole view of Phnom Penh.
