Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Back in Siem Reap, your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

A cool way to see a very different...

A cool way to see a very different part for the world. The guide was great - although we could have gotten more information on what it is was like to live in the stilt village. It might be interesting to see if there is an appropriate way to get out and walk around - although I am sure that might be seen as disrespectful by some. We booked this the day before the tour, and the operator was great in communicating to us when our hotel pick up would be. Overall I thought they did a great job.

A fun boat ride up tiny canals

We had a great day with our tour guide, Phearom. Ended up being a private tour, but I think that was just cause no one else signed up that day. Phearom was very interesting to chat with. It was especially interesting to hear about the more recent history of Cambodia and its wars, and how they affected his life. For the actual tour part, you get in a long tail boat and make your way up impossibly narrow canals toward the lake. Best part is looking at these houses built incredibly high on stilts. I would be curious to come back and try during the time of year when the "canoe option" is available. I'd recommend wearing athletic shoes that can get a little dirty, because at least for us there was one part where exiting the boat was muddy. Thanks for a great day!

Special experience in Siem Reap

Kampong Phluk, Tonle Sap Lakers one of the place we want to explore in Siem Reap. Luckily we select Green Era Travel and I need to give special credit to our outstanding tour guide - Samnang. His introduction make us learn deeply about these two places. More than that, his heart to care make us find no difficulties to get both on and off the boat and access all the corners of Kampong Phluk. I am sure Cambodia need that kind of tanlemt thus it could enhance a country’s reputation.

Get a Different View of Cambodia Than Just Temples

Really interesting tour of one of the traditional floating villages (actually built on stilts) and Tonle Sap Lake. I did the afternoon tour which saw us start around 2PM and got back to my hotel by 8PM. We were mostly on a boat heading down a rather crowded river but we got a great view of the village. We also got on and off a few times to explore on land. I'd recommend wearing sneakers or trekking sandals as it was quite muddy and getting on/off the boat was always a bit of an adventure. Once we got through the village, we headed out to the lake to enjoy a break at one of the floating markets (actually floating) before watching the sunset. Our guide Marin was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was also flexible about what we did, giving us extra time on the lake so we could fully enjoy the sunset. Overall, a very interesting tour and a different perspective on Cambodia!

Tonle Sap Lake beautiful reserve - partly tainted by garbage

The Lake and bird reserve are beautiful. Go early to beat the high temperatures. During dry season the birds are more numerous. Downside of the experience: garbage - same as everywhere in Siem Reap. The arrival by car to boat pickup is the worst. It looks like a garbage heap. Plastic bags will line the trees & rubs along the way to the floating village. The village shores are lined with garbage as well. Once you leave the village for the bird sanctuary, you will be rewarded with a clean, green environment with lots of birds. DEAR CAMBODIA GOVERNMENT: PLEASE START A CLEANUP AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR LOCALS + GUIDES + TOURISTS and show the splendour Cambodia.

Trip is great and we managed to see...

Trip is great and we managed to see the kampong life in the village. The ride through mangrove is enjoyable and relaxing. Saw live river prawn. The guide Reem as punctual. He is very helpful always ready to lend his hands to my mum who has difficulties in walking when on and off the boats.
