Tonle Sap Lake and Kampong Phluk Half-Day Tours from Siem Reap (4-5h)

Vanmiddag mooie uitstap gemaakt naar Kompong Phluk. Een ervaren gids, Nak, gaf ons veel uitleg over de lokale vissersgemeenschap die in deze paalwoningen leven. Het enige minpuntje is de lage waterstand van het meer op dit moment.

We had an awesome afternoon with Han, our knowledgeable and fun tour guide to Tonle Sap lake and Kompong Phluk. Other companies get negative reviews, but we can’t speak highly enough of this tour company and guide - they are professional and delivered on the experience. It was one of the highlights of our visit to Siem Reap. Thanks Han!

En nuestro viaje a Siem Reap y aprovechando que teníamos la mañana libre antes de coger nuestro vuelo por la tarde decidimos el día de antes coger está excursión casi a última hora del día. A la hora prevista Nak, nuestro guía, nos recogió en el hotel y nada más montarnos nos empezó a explicar en inglés todo sobre el lago y el pueblo que íbamos a visitar. Siempre muy educado y tratando de compartir con nosotros todo su conocimiento. Un lastima que la falta de lluvia nos haya impedido ver el pueblo inundado, aún asi, ha sido muy interesante la excursión y conocer un poco más sobre la forma de vida de los Camboyanos.

Our guide Marin from Green Era Travel was terrific. Patient, knowledgeable and very friendly. The tour was well organised and there were no hidden costs/prices. It took about an hour to travel from Siem Reap along main roads and then an unsealed but smooth road through rice fields to the Fishing village on stilts. We were there in July and all the land under the houses was dry. Will still found the village and the lake very interesting and the residents were friendly. We got a bit wet in the boat out on the lake but it cooled us down and added to the fun - the water was warm anyway. Well worth a half day before or after your trip to Angkor Wat.

My spouse and I signed up for this half-day tour via Viator. It was processed quickly and without any issue. Despite putting in my hotel information, I was emailed and asked for my hotel information again. I gave the same information and a tuk-tuk pickup was arranged. An air-conditioned van arrived. What a great surprise on such a hot day! After about 30-45 minutes we arrived at the entrance to the floating village. We were aware that it would not be flooded because it was not yet rainy season. It was GREAT to see the village not yet under water and watch how the village prepares for the rains. Our guide took us from place to place offering great explanations about this unique place and its people. After about 45 minutes we arrived at the river boat dock, boarded a small boat and headed out into the lake. We visited one restaurant on the water where they had stuffed crocodiles in a pit for us to view. It was a little confusing because even the guide thought they were alive. They clearly were arranged as a tourist attraction. After a cool drink we headed back to our hotel. That was it. I was disapointed that we weren't even offered a ride around parts of the lake to take in its beauty or size. We left our hotel at 8:15 and were back by noon. Not really worth the amount we paid but a great guide and very generous driver who allowed us to see his home.

We spent a fabulous day in Kompong phluk. Our guide Chenda was very nice and very interesting. He gives us a lot of explanations about the history of the village and about Cambodia with a lot of humour without ever being boring. Thanks Chenda for this unforgettable visit.

This is a must for anyone spending more than a day in Siem Reap. The town is not touristy in the slightest, giving you the authentic view of how the villagers live. Even if your visit doesn’t line up with the flooded season (when the roads become rovers and the bus is replaced with a boat) from August to October, seeing the stilted houses from the ground is still impressive. If you do the afternoon tour, it ends with a trip out to the lake to a floating restaurant to watch the sunset. Our guide Chenda was extremely informative about the town and Cambodia generally, and had very good English skills.

The day out we had was exceptional. Marin was an attentive and kind tour guide. Would highly recommend to do this tour!

We were looking for a half a day activity during our visit to Siem Reap and chose this tour. Due to the time of the year (July) the water around the houses had dried up and they were not "floating" but were on stilts. It was an interesting experience. Our English speaking guide, Reem was very knowledgeable. During the drive there he gave us a lot of information on the history of Cambodia, the Khmer, the life of farmers etc. Once we got there he took us through the village and explained all the details. Subsequently we took a boat ride on Tonle Sap freshwater lake and then on to a crocodile farm in the middle of the lake, which was intriguing. Overall, a very different experience and was done within 4 hrs.
