Itinerary
Following a hotel pick-up, your guide will take you to the Royal Palace, built in 1866 by the French after King Norodom relocated the royal capital from Oudong. Located on the western banks of the Tonle Sap and Mekong River, the palace complex features stunning Khmer architecture, divided into 4 main compounds.

The grounds of the Palace are also home to the Silver Pagoda, which received its name because its floor is made of 5,329 silver tiles. Learn about the Khmer kings, resident at all times, with the exception of the period when the Khmer Rouge took control in 1975. See gold and jeweled Buddha statues in the Silver Pagoda, and the Angkor Wat style Bell Tower.

Then, learn about the turbulent years of the Khmer Rouge at the infamous Tuol Sleng Museum. Located in a former high school that was used as the notorious Security Prison 21, the Genocide Museum traces the story of the Killing Fields and the torture and executions that took place from 1975-79. See exhibits that tell the stories of some of the estimated 20,000 prisoners that were killed.

Return to the city center and and get stunning views of the Tonle Sap and Mekong River Side before heading back to your hotel.

A memorable and valuable experience.

Booked this tour whilst visiting Phnom Penh with my father. We opted for a tour with an English speaking (Russian too if that's your preference) guide and driver who provided valuable and informative experience in a very friendly manner. Siphat our tour guide, provided us with rare first hand experience of the troubled times and we thank him wholeheartedly for sharing it with us. We definitely gained more insight through booking Siphat as our English speaking guide than we would have going it alone. The day was very flexible and catered to any needs we had. We visited some local carpenters as my father had an interest. The driver provided us with ample amounts of beverages to keep us hydrated throughout the day. They offered to stop anywhere we liked if we were hungry or wanted coffee, etc. They were a very accommodating team. I would definitely recommend this tour company and Siphat as a tour guide to anyone who was looking to learn about Cambodia's history and culture.

Absolut Empfehlenswert.

Best guide in Phnom Penh.

We give Syphat our guide 5 stars! Excellent knowledge on the trip. He picked us up on time. Spent ages showing us everything. We only had 1 day in Phnom Penh and we couldn't have spent it with anyone better. Thank you. Sarah and Stephanie.

Highly insightful private tour of Phnom Penh Genocide Museum and Killing Fields with survivor Siphat

My partner and I contacted Green Era Travel to request a guided tour of the Genocide Museum and Killing Fields near Phnom Penh. We wanted to see this difficult part of Cambodia’s history through the eyes of a Cambodian person. Siphat, our guide, certainly gave us the experience we were looking for. Siphat personally survived the Cambodian genocide. He was eleven years old when the Khmer Rouge forced his family from Phnom Penh to the countryside and killed his father, sisters, and grandmother. Siphat shared his firsthand account with clarity and courage. He led us through the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center giving factual explanations of what happened there. We were able to have a two-way conversation in English with Siphat. Siphat was generous with his time. He answered all our questions and allowed us to process what we saw. We were honored to spend this half day with Siphat. Afterwards, on the half-hour drive from the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center back to central Phnom Penh, Siphat also shared lighter conversation about our lives and Cambodian culture. He knowledgeably told us about other sights in Phnom Penh and Cambodia to help us plan the rest of our trip. Green Era Travel provided a tuk-tuk and driver for the day with pick up and drop off in Phnom Penh. We appreciated the cold water in the vehicle. Highly recommended.
