Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

A fantastic and interesting tour with 2 gentlemen.

Fantastic tour from start to finish. Our guide (Nak) and driver (Phearom) were so patient and waited for us while we finished our breakfast in our hostel. The car and the journey were very comfortable. The drive flew by as we got to learn lots of information about Cambodia as a country, past and present and of course about Kampong Phluk and Tonle sap. Amazing tour to learn about geography, history, food, economy, Buddhism and culture all at once. Nak has an excellent level of English and was very easy to understand, If we were confused he would find a way to help us understand and encouraged questions. It felt like travelling with a very knowledgeable friend and he made it very personal. He first took us to walk through a local market near where he was raised and allowed us to try some interesting sweet fruits, showed us some fishing nets, vegetables, cooking utensils and fresh fish. After the market we were given a chance to use the toilet and offered cold water whole Nak purchased our boat tickets. He showed us some pictures comparing the lake during wet and dry season. He also showed us pictures of some of the fish that could be found in the river. We then got back in the car and went on to the village of Kampong Phluk and got to walk, watch and talk with locals as they worked. He told us about their traditions, construction of housing and information on the population. It was such a bright coloured and interesting place. We even got to meet some adorable local children and learn about the Cambodian education system. Finally, we got back in the car and were brought to the boat to the lake. We got to see lots of fishermen at work and see why Tonle sap has its name. It is so vast and interesting. He explained even more about the lake and surrounding areas. On our way back to the hostel we had lovely conversation about Buddhism, Cambodia and even Ireland (our home country). We actually booked a flight instead of a bus today so we could do this tour and we are so glad we did! Don't skip it just because it's dry season, it's still fantastic!

Insightful Experience

The morning started with Phearom and Nak picking us up from our Hostel. Nak was very respectful and in no rush and allowed us to finish our Coffee. We then set off and were driven to a really cool local market. Nak brought us through the market were we got to try some delicious fruit and we got to see some of the local produce and how it is prepared before being sold. Nak also showed us the different types of nets used to capture Fish which can also be bought. We then got back in our car and Phearom drove us to collect our tickets where we stopped for a toilet break and Nak went through the differences between the rainy season and non rainy season and how it effects the boats with the level of water changing. There was also a board with different types of Fish that are caught by the Fishermen. Back in our car then and Phearom drove us to Kampong Phluk, a village where we stopped and had a walk around and got to interact the the lovely people living there. We got to see the locals sort the fish that they caught. It was cool to see and Nak explained to us how they prep the wood for their houses and how it is much stronger and can last lots of years before needing maintenance. Finally, we got on our Boat and were taken out. As the boat was being driven it was cool to see all the Fisherman using their nets to capture fish. There were also some floating restraunts on the boat journey that you could stop off at for a drink and food or for some cool photos like the ones with the love hearts. Phearom and Nak were fantastic company and very knowledgeable with great English spoken. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning out and would 100% recommend them to anyone looking to get an amazing experience like my girlfriend and I did. សូមអរគុណ???? Noel and Orlaith

Great Tour

Very good tour. A first hand experience of what local life is like. The kids in the area are very friendly & you have the opportunity to buy some colouring books & pencils for roughly 10 dollars to give to the kids. It is heartwarming. Our tour guide, Nak, was very knowledgeable and passionate about the politics/culture/lifestyle/religion & was happy to answer any of the questions we had.
