Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Back in Siem Reap, your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

Tonle Sap Lake & Kampong

We were blessed with our tour. We had booked a small group tour in which it ended up being a private tour! Our guide Phy was very knowledgeable, had clear communication and gave us great insight to the local people we encountered along the way especially being able to walk around a local market with zero tourists other than ourselves. I highly recommend he and his tour for anyone wanting to go and explore Siem Reap. His company and his stories were a joy. Thank you Phy for all your care

Great Guide for a Unique & Important Experience

Our guide Voath (Wat) was great! Easy to get along with and very informative, he took us to a local market and showed us different local foods (and let us try some local fruits / veggies). We only spent 20 minutes or so at the market before making it to the lake village and getting on a boat and touring the village and lake areas. He was a great guide through the whole journey and I highly recommend. This trip is an important experience for people looking to learn about the country and get away from tourist hotspots to understand some of the culture, history, and societies within Cambodia.

An education and a humbling experience.

The tour was fascinating and Phy, in particular, was a friendly, kind and exceptionally knowledgable tour guide. Cambodia is full of great tour guides but Phy is the best I’ve come across. I explained that I’m a teacher and he took me to see an English lesson being delivered, which was a beautifully wholesome experience that I won’t forget in a hurry. The ingenuity of the people here is incredible. They live an exceptionally tough existence without any societal safety nets but they are welcoming and generous with their warmth. They are a wonderful example of the strength of the human spirit. An inspiration to do better and help whenever possible. I know on all the tours there are extras, but please save a little bit more for this one. The school and the children that attend are always in need of donations and there is a lady that runs the floating restaurant that gives kids jobs from the local village to help them out. Please, give generously. Phy was kind enough to take me there and I felt honoured to be able to talk with her. She was are great example of the good that happens when you empower women in society. I’ll definitely come back to Siem Reap soon and this will be the first place I visit! Thank you, Phy!

Comfortable, interesting and comprehensive

Nak was incredibly interesting and helpful on our trip to tonle sap. He made sure he answered our questions and took time to show us what we wanted to see. As a monk of 10 years training, he had lots of insight into the pagoda especially. He took us away from where lots of tourists were and gave us a comprehensive tour of both the lake and the floating village. The car was comfortable, air conditioned accompanied with lots of cold water. I would highly recommend him as a guide for this trip.

Too expensive for what you get

I liked our guide a lot; however, I thought this tour was rather expensive for what we received. We rode in a little shuttle bus to a market, where our guide walked around and pointed out various items. Then we went to the village on stilts, where we rode a very noisy boat through the water and out to the lake. We docked at a floating “restaurant” to take pictures or buy souvenirs, then return on the noisy boat, back to the bus & hotel. If I had paid half that price, maybe I would have been more impressed. The boat was so noisy that our guide couldn’t even talk, so we just sat there, and it was a long ride out and back.
