Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Back in Siem Reap, your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

Great trip!

I recently went on the half day with Kompong Phluk Half day trip. In the morning we were greeted by our guide, Nak. He was very friendly and eager to tell us all about the day, what we were going to see and the history of Cambodia. We stopped at a local market on the way to the lake and Nak told us all about the market, the produce they we were selling and answered any other questions we had. As it was dry season we ended up walking through the village which provided an interesting view of the houses and the other buildings, schools, monestry etc. Finally we took a boat out onto the lake and stopped at one of the floating restaurants for a drink, importantly we weren't pressured to buy anything! Overall I'd say seeing the village life was up there with one of the best things I've done in Cambodia. Interesting trip with a great knowledge and friendly guide. Thanks for the trip Nak! Nak

Fantastic trip

Today we had a trip with Nak. He was fantastic. We visited a countryside market which was completely different to the markets in the city centre. Then we visited the floating village. It was fascinating. So different to any village I've seen before. Then we went on a boat ride on the lake. It's HUGE. GREAT TRIP.

Local village and lake tour

We were picked up in an air conditioned van which we shared with another family. It was very cool and comfortable despite the heat and humidity outside. Mr Nak Our tour guide was very informative giving us information about the village and area we were going to visit. He gave us lots of information about Cambodia as well. We stopped at the local village market where Mr Nak showed us the local produce explaining what they were. As it was the dry season the village was not surrounded by water we were able to walk through the village and experience what it was like to be a local. A short trip by motor boat out onto the huge lake was an experience. We stopped for refreshments on a floating restaurant. Although it would have been interesting to see the village surrounded by water Mr Nak was able to give us an idea of what it would have been like. I would recommend Mr Nak and the driver for this tour. His English and explanations were excellent

Worth a trip

It was a good tour. Nak, our guide was very knowledgeable and took great care of us. Being a local boy, he gave us interesting insight of the village life. The local market was most interesting and I would have loved to taste more of the food if I wasn’t sick. Kompong Phluk, Tonle Sap Lake are worth a visit and a bit of an eye opening. Nak was able to give us a rundown of the fishing history and trade for Tonle Sap Lake. Would also like to come back when the water level is at its maximum to see the difference.

Highlight of our Cambodia Trip

We toured Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand for our honeymoon in February of 2019. We only had time to visit Siem Reap while in Cambodia but wanted to experience more than just the Angkor temples. We booked this trip as a way to see a local village and it was honestly the highlight of our few days in Siem Reap. The village itself was really different and amazing to see, the lake was beautiful, the boat trips were fun and a good way to experience the countryside. Lastly, our guide SAN was incredible. He was friendly, very well educated about everything we asked, and made sure we had a memorable experience. Thank you to San and the Green Era Travel team!

Great tour of rural area

Nak was our guide. He was easy to understand and able to tell us a lot of interesting information about the area because not only did he grow up here but served as a monk for a number of years before becoming a tour guide. Even though the wet season would have been better at the lake, not to mention rowing a canoe through the flooded forest, it was very interesting to see how the locals lived under the shady stilted portion of their houses. I really liked walking through the market as well. The locals were very warm and inviting to us as we strolled through. Glad we went, and so was my 5-year-old daughter!
