Pick up  from your hotel and set out this morning in a private tour to the countryside which drive about 45-minutes to the fishermen’s village of Kompong Phluk whose name means 'harbor of the tusks' and Cambodia great lake. Enjoy Tonle Sap Lake, is a lake with no ends in front of you, and birds flying slowly overhead and surrounding with the interesting village.

During the dry season (February to Jul), the village can be reached by mini bus or motorbike, as the – bumpy - road that is normally flooded dries up.

In the rainy season (August to Jan), a short boat ride from the quay, through the wetland area will take you to Kompong Phluk. It is not a floating village but a village on high stilts as well as some floating houses and in spite of fishing is often the privilege of the Vietnamese minority but inhabitants of Kompong Phluk are almost exclusively of Cambodian origin. The villagers frequently move from house to another house during the rainy season, they live in houses built on stilts and move to small huts near the waterfront during the dry season to do fishing.

Arrive at the quay, board a local boat for a 1.5-hour ride on the Tonle Sap Lake as well as village where you will see nature in a way you’ve only seen in picture books, and the tour of Kampong Phluk is worth the extra effort to get there, then we will visit the village, the pagoda on the only butte (the only building which is not on stilts) and see the activities of the villagers who your expert guide will teach you about their culture, the life style, and the ecosystem of this fascinating place.

Optional (August to Jan): you can pay an extra to take a small canoes paddle by villagers; will take you deep into the dense flooded forest. The trees of this forest are perfectly adapted to their unusual existence as they are completely submerged a part of the year.

Return to Siem Reap and drop off at your hotel or requested drop off point drop-off Siem Reap city center.

Kampong Phluk

Visiting Kampong Phluk was a memorable experience! Last week, I and my gf spent our first day trip with Bong. Phearom’s team to see the village and life living on a boat. We do not remember how many boat collisions happened along a small canal guided to the Tonle Sap. I am kidding , don’t get me wrong, it was the fun part of the trip and nothing to worry about it, lah.. Because of dry season, we did not see much water but still it was a remarkable view to have your eyes on, highly recommended. As we are local visitor, we will be able to see the village once again in October ^^

Great tour in Tonle Sap!

I travelled alone to Cambodia and joined the daily tour to visit Kompong Khluk floating village and the Tonle Sap lake. The tour guide Mr Sarat was very nice and helpful, he answered all my questions about the Khmer culture, how local people earn money to live. I realized that the life seemed much harder to the villagers living around the lake, especially at low water season. The driver lived in one of the stilted houses. I have seen this kind of things in my country and maybe somewhere else, but that still touches me a lot. It's just not only Angkor Temples but gives me a different Siem Reap... I would highly recommend this tour.

Good experience in Tonle Sap Lake!

The visit to Tonle Sap Lake (Kampong Phluk) made us realize how different the world is and how people live... they live in stilted houses to protect themselves from flood water. But why they have to do that....the answer is that the same water is what is feeding them... selling fish, tourism, etc. The boating experience was excellent. Our Guide (Phearom) spoke good English and he did well. We booked the trip online with Green Era Travel before landing in Siem Reap but later came to know that it was too expensive (US$33) compared to booking it locally in Siem Reap with travel agents like Easy Tour travels (only US$18). So don't book online.

Great tour guide Samnang!

I do really appreciate Samnang's professional guide throughout the tour. He walked along the village with us and explain the culture there even it was just a fishing net. He has great attitude of being a tour guide and I will definitely introduce him to my friends who would travel Siem Reap in future!

interesting outing

even though not much to see except houses on stilts and mangrove trees yet our tour guide made the trip very interesting through his knowledge and humour . I would like to thank Mr. Pheroam for providing us with finer details about the lifestyle of fishermen and how they cope up with their unique environment

What a bargain!

More value for $22 than seems possible. A very comfortable minivan picked me up (and brought me back to) my airbnb. Our guide Noy was very knowledgable and speaks good English. The tour through the village (it's dry season so we walked) was very interesting and the boat ride and sunset on the lake were lovely. I tipped almost what I paid for the trip and still feel like I got a great deal.

Amazing welcome to Cambodia

Arrived early morning in Cambodia for a short visit and decided to book this tour. What an amazing decision...not only the tour was wonderful but also Phearom our tour guide went the extra mile. Hotel airport pick up got delayed and him and the other Balinese family were kind enough to wait for me, so that, I did not miss the trip. The place is beautiful and Phearom was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He even recommended other things to do while in Cambodia. I will definitely will recommend this tour at a 100% if you are on a short visit and want to make good use of your time.
