Pick up  from your hotel and set out this morning in a private tour to the countryside which drive about 45-minutes to the fishermen’s village of Kompong Phluk whose name means 'harbor of the tusks' and Cambodia great lake. Enjoy Tonle Sap Lake, is a lake with no ends in front of you, and birds flying slowly overhead and surrounding with the interesting village.

During the dry season (February to Jul), the village can be reached by mini bus or motorbike, as the – bumpy - road that is normally flooded dries up.

In the rainy season (August to Jan), a short boat ride from the quay, through the wetland area will take you to Kompong Phluk. It is not a floating village but a village on high stilts as well as some floating houses and in spite of fishing is often the privilege of the Vietnamese minority but inhabitants of Kompong Phluk are almost exclusively of Cambodian origin. The villagers frequently move from house to another house during the rainy season, they live in houses built on stilts and move to small huts near the waterfront during the dry season to do fishing.

Arrive at the quay, board a local boat for a 1.5-hour ride on the Tonle Sap Lake as well as village where you will see nature in a way you’ve only seen in picture books, and the tour of Kampong Phluk is worth the extra effort to get there, then we will visit the village, the pagoda on the only butte (the only building which is not on stilts) and see the activities of the villagers who your expert guide will teach you about their culture, the life style, and the ecosystem of this fascinating place.

Optional (August to Jan): you can pay an extra to take a small canoes paddle by villagers; will take you deep into the dense flooded forest. The trees of this forest are perfectly adapted to their unusual existence as they are completely submerged a part of the year.

Great tour

Thanks to Sorphea our guide and Mom our driver we had a lovely tour of the Tonle Sap lake and community living there in houses on stilts. We went in the early dry season but it was still very nice to see the sunset on the lake.

Excellent

Sath was our most excellent guide, and Mr. Norte was our outstanding driver. Our experience could not have been any better. We were impressed with Sath’s contributions back to his community and the way he interacted so lovingly with the community around Kamplong Pluck where we toured. He seemed to truly love sharing about the rich culture of Cambodia, and his knowledge of history was enlightening. His personality and enthusiasm made the trip extra special.

The floating villages are amazing!

I will never forget the tour Sorphea gave me of the floating village of Kampong Phluck. Even though this village is well known and close to Siem Reap, this village is not a tourist trap or fake in any way. You will see real Cambodian homes in the floating village and people going about their daily routine. Sorphea speaks English better than many of the guides I have hired. I especially like how Sorphea noticed my personal interests. He found ways to satisfy my curiosity with stories and short introductions with locals. Sorphea seems to know many of the people, which keeps the tour relaxing but also engaging and fun. I met vendors, farmers, gasoline attendants, barbers, fishermen, children, monks, housewives, and more. As you visit the sites, Sorphea is excellent at telling the ancient history of Cambodia as well as its modern history. He knows details and tells stories that even an informed tourist will find very valuable. My tour with Sorphea was one of the highlights of my trip.

Tonne Sap lake and Kampon Phluk market, half day private tour.

We were collected promptly from our hotel by Sorphea, our guide and Sopheak, the driver. The vehicle was modern, clean and air conditioned.Sorphea spoke perfect English and explained many things along the way, including some general unrelated questions about our time in Cambodia.Sopheak’s driving at all times was safe and confidence inspiring. In January the water level is quite low, but you can still see how the villagers live on the stilts.

Essential tour for Siem Reap travellers!

Excellent trip to Tonle Sap lake and the village on stilts! Aside from Angkor Wat, this is a must visit for travellers staying in Siem Reap. Our guide Dy was incredibly knowledgeable and provided a fascinating insight into Cambodia’s history and his own personal experiences under the Khmer Rouge regime, which were very moving. Kampong Phluk was a sight to behold, as was the vastness of Tonle Sap lake. We also opted to do the canoe ride through the mangrove which was good fun and provided some great photos. Highly recommend the whole experience and thanks again to Dy and the driver!

Great tour of Tonle Sap lake and Cambodian village.

Sophy was a knowledgeable guide who took time to explain history of local village, lake and river. Had good command of English and explain slowly and clearly and answered all our questions. Peab was a very safe driver who took care of our water needs and provided cold towels. Boat driver (I don’t know his name) took us around the lake was quite but courteous and helped us get on and off the bat. We felt very safe in his boat.

Stunning Tour from Siem Reap

This was a highlight of our time in Siem Reap! A stunning way to escape the city and see the beautiful nature of Cambodia met with the locals of the countryside. If you are staying more than a day in Siem Reap, visiting the Tonle Sap Lake is a MUST after Angkor Wat, and this tour was the perfect way of visiting. Our guide Mr. Sophy was so professional, kind, and enthusiastic to answer all of our questions and explain the many sights, and he also is a great photographer! Our driver Mr. Sopeak was equally as professional and kind. Cannot recommend this tour enough, and be sure to request the amazing Sophy and Sopeak as your guide and driver!

Must do!

We are a family of 5 (kids ages 21, 20, and 17) and everyone loved this tour! Sorphea really showed us the village lifestyle around Tonle Sap. He gave us a lot of information about the market, homes, occupations, and culture. When we walked through the market he told us what everything was and how it was used. There were a lot of products we were not familiar with. When walking through the village, we stopped and spoke to school children learning English so they could practice and gave everyone high fives. It was definitely a highlight and exceeded expectations.
