Pick up  from your hotel and set out this morning in a private tour to the countryside which drive about 45-minutes to the fishermen’s village of Kompong Phluk whose name means 'harbor of the tusks' and Cambodia great lake. Enjoy Tonle Sap Lake, is a lake with no ends in front of you, and birds flying slowly overhead and surrounding with the interesting village.

During the dry season (February to Jul), the village can be reached by mini bus or motorbike, as the – bumpy - road that is normally flooded dries up.

In the rainy season (August to Jan), a short boat ride from the quay, through the wetland area will take you to Kompong Phluk. It is not a floating village but a village on high stilts as well as some floating houses and in spite of fishing is often the privilege of the Vietnamese minority but inhabitants of Kompong Phluk are almost exclusively of Cambodian origin. The villagers frequently move from house to another house during the rainy season, they live in houses built on stilts and move to small huts near the waterfront during the dry season to do fishing.

Arrive at the quay, board a local boat for a 1.5-hour ride on the Tonle Sap Lake as well as village where you will see nature in a way you’ve only seen in picture books, and the tour of Kampong Phluk is worth the extra effort to get there, then we will visit the village, the pagoda on the only butte (the only building which is not on stilts) and see the activities of the villagers who your expert guide will teach you about their culture, the life style, and the ecosystem of this fascinating place.

Optional (August to Jan): you can pay an extra to take a small canoes paddle by villagers; will take you deep into the dense flooded forest. The trees of this forest are perfectly adapted to their unusual existence as they are completely submerged a part of the year.

Return to Siem Reap and drop off at your hotel or requested drop off point drop-off Siem Reap city center.

Stunning Tour from Siem Reap

This was a highlight of our time in Siem Reap! A stunning way to escape the city and see the beautiful nature of Cambodia met with the locals of the countryside. If you are staying more than a day in Siem Reap, visiting the Tonle Sap Lake is a MUST after Angkor Wat, and this tour was the perfect way of visiting. Our guide Mr. Sophy was so professional, kind, and enthusiastic to answer all of our questions and explain the many sights, and he also is a great photographer! Our driver Mr. Sopeak was equally as professional and kind. Cannot recommend this tour enough, and be sure to request the amazing Sophy and Sopeak as your guide and driver!

Must do!

We are a family of 5 (kids ages 21, 20, and 17) and everyone loved this tour! Sorphea really showed us the village lifestyle around Tonle Sap. He gave us a lot of information about the market, homes, occupations, and culture. When we walked through the market he told us what everything was and how it was used. There were a lot of products we were not familiar with. When walking through the village, we stopped and spoke to school children learning English so they could practice and gave everyone high fives. It was definitely a highlight and exceeded expectations.

Nice visit to the floating village and boat rides with our new friend Phaerom.

We called up Phaerom who had previously picked us up at the airport and arranged our day trip directly through him. He is knowledgeable, and had a nice, clean vehicle for hire. We would recommend hiring him as a driver/guide. We had a great time visiting the villages, seeing how they lived, and helping conduct an English language class to some young local villagers. Grab a beer and enjoy the canoe trip through the jungle!

Great day trip from Siem Reap!

Nak gave us an incredible tour. He was extremely knowledgeable about the ecosystem, culture, and lifestyle. He helped us interact with the local children and was advising us on sights even through the car ride. Would highly recommend!

The Tour To Take!

Incredible tour! My guide Nak is just an all around good guy, super friendly and very smart. He has so much information, I really learned a lot! And of course the driver Billy Bob was a cool guy with a cool nickname. You will be seeing how people in the area live day to day, and odds are your standard of living is much higher. Nak made it super clear that it’s not necessary buy little trinkets or snacks from anyone, there’s no pressure or tourist traps from this company at all. That said, you should bring cash and buy some little souvenir's or treats anyways just to help out people in the area. I had a really great time and learned a lot and I am sure you will too!

An excursion not to be missed

The tour was beautiful... we moved in a comfortable minivan and the driver and our guide Bunchoub were outstanding! On the way we stopped at a beautiful local market, very large and varied, where you could taste the life of the locals. The visit to the lake and the village on attached stilts was magnificent, we could also make a short trip on a small boat in the mangrove forest and finally landed on land. In the village we were welcomed by children of all ages and a people with a smile always printed on their faces. Before returning home we stopped to eat in a nice local restaurant extremely stocked and clean... We warmly recommend this tour!!

Half day boat cruise

The driver and tour guide were excellent, courteous, polite and extremely informative. Communication was clear and checked for our understanding. Would recommend the private tour. Pick up and drop off was from the hotel. Plenty of flexibility. Took you to local village on the way, stop for use of rest rooms. Only advise everyone you go ask for US dollars, can pay by local currency. Boat ride was good stopping on route at village built on stilts. Visited a Buddha temple. See how the locals live and provide for their families. Worth a trip just for experience.
