Pick up  from your hotel and set out this morning in a private tour to the countryside which drive about 45-minutes to the fishermen’s village of Kompong Phluk whose name means 'harbor of the tusks' and Cambodia great lake. Enjoy Tonle Sap Lake, is a lake with no ends in front of you, and birds flying slowly overhead and surrounding with the interesting village.

During the dry season (February to Jul), the village can be reached by mini bus or motorbike, as the – bumpy - road that is normally flooded dries up.

In the rainy season (August to Jan), a short boat ride from the quay, through the wetland area will take you to Kompong Phluk. It is not a floating village but a village on high stilts as well as some floating houses and in spite of fishing is often the privilege of the Vietnamese minority but inhabitants of Kompong Phluk are almost exclusively of Cambodian origin. The villagers frequently move from house to another house during the rainy season, they live in houses built on stilts and move to small huts near the waterfront during the dry season to do fishing.

Arrive at the quay, board a local boat for a 1.5-hour ride on the Tonle Sap Lake as well as village where you will see nature in a way you’ve only seen in picture books, and the tour of Kampong Phluk is worth the extra effort to get there, then we will visit the village, the pagoda on the only butte (the only building which is not on stilts) and see the activities of the villagers who your expert guide will teach you about their culture, the life style, and the ecosystem of this fascinating place.

Optional (August to Jan): you can pay an extra to take a small canoes paddle by villagers; will take you deep into the dense flooded forest. The trees of this forest are perfectly adapted to their unusual existence as they are completely submerged a part of the year.

For Alex's birthday, Sath made my day.

The journey to the stilt town on the lake was interesting. You'll get to observe how the people really live their lives, obtain their daily necessities, go to school, etc. When I was there, it was the dry season. When the rainy season arrives, it will literally resemble a floating village. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and insightful about all things connected, including facts, figures, and information regarding size. The Tonlé Sap, Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake, is home to settlements where residents coexist peacefully with the water's ebbs and flows. Our final visit was at a restaurant that was overflowing, and we were all cheered on the roof of the establishment with four bottles of Angkor beer. You won't be regrets if you ask for both of them.

Pretty incredibly conducted tour.

My guide was Sath. The tour proceeded at my pace and accordingly was most enjoyable and richly informative. (I am old and go at a leisurely pace as. I want to really experience and learn and photograph.) To explore the village at height of the dry season, realizing that half of the year boat is only transport, was fascinating. Village wat also fascinating as it is massively scene painted. Very much worth the cost.

Unique & Memorable

Really interesting & enjoyable day. Sorphea, our tour guide, was knowledgeable & made our day very memorable. The local village markets experience was fun and visiting the floating village in the dry was special. We came away with a great understanding of the lifestyle.

It's worth going to the floating village in the dry season

We were conveniently picked up at our hotel by private air-conditioned car. What a wonderful experience visiting a country village market on our way to the floating village at Kampong Phluk & Tonle Sap Lake with our expert guide Phuy Phy.After the market, we travelled along country roads that led us to Kampong Phluk & Lake Tonle Sap. The floating village is so named because in the wet season the town floods, hence the houses are built on very tall stilts. Our visit was clearly in the dry season, so we were able to access it by car, which made it easier to interact with the community. We also took a boat ride to a floating restaurant on Lake Tonle Sap, which was very interesting. The most pleasurable part of this tour was the time we spent with the children, particularly the ones at school learning English. They were very keen to ask us many questions. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour thanks to our guide, Phuy Phy, who was very knowledgeable & informative. We highly recommend this tour and Phuy Phy.

Do not miss this tour!

This is a FANTASTIC tour and should not be missed! Our guide Sata was excellent and kept us well-informed about the local culture and floating village life. We were able to view the houses on stilts from the water and also went to the village street where we were greeted by friendly children. He took us up into one of the houses and spoke to the family which was very interesting! We also went out to a floating restaurant on the lake for the cool breezes and some coconut water. He took us to a local market and we saw so many local fruits and meats...very cool! All around great experience!
