Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Back in Siem Reap, your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

Kampong Phluk and Tonle Sap tour

We have completely enjoyed this half day tour. I am pleasantly surprised as i did not expect much before the tour. I guess having a great tour guide ( Chau Touchsan) help making our trip more interesting. Touchsan is very knowledgable and engaging throughout the trip, fluent in english.., he took us to a great place for lunch and provide great advise on food, and even went out of his way to drive us to local market to buy local fruits to take back to hotel...5- stars for a great tour guide.

Superb

We went to this trip and it was very scenic ! We enjoyed the half day tour and we also got the option for canoe ride! The tour guide also showed a few pics of it in rainy season when the water levels rise very high. Tonle Sap Lake was also very beautiful and magnanimous!

Tourist Trap and horrible tour

Rickety van on bumpy roads made for an uncomfortable ride there and back. Shanty boat with uncomfortable seats and a driver who used the horn so much that I got a headache. This tour takes you through a river village where you see people bathing, swimming, pooping, peeing, fishing and washing clothes in dirty river water. This is heartbreaking and the tour companies are making a killing taking people to see this. At no point during this tour were we given information on how we could help these people and we were not educated on how these people were being helped by their government. This tour is advertised as a lake tour but we spent the entire time going up and down the over crowded (full of other boats) river. Once at the mouth of the lake we stopped at a tourist trap where they have caged crocodiles, rabbits, and guinea pigs. There is a sign urging people to purchase over priced drinks but the tour states that water is provided with the ticket price - we were not offered any water. The other tourist trap the tour stopped at was the mangrove where you can pay 5 USD to have a lady paddle you around the mangrove in a canoe. This could have been lovely but there were so many people that is was utter chaos. It was interesting to see this river village but I would not recommend this tour at all!

A great tour with San

This is a wonderful tour, made better by our guide San. He picked us up on time, had water for everyone and good knowledge of Cambodia and the Floating Village. He took us on a tour of the village, the temple, and the school. We did the morning tour and are glad we did because it was getting crowded as we left because today (Jan 1) is a national holiday. We highly recommend both San and the tour.

Great way to see local villages

We wanted to see something of the local area that wasn’t temples and this tour was perfect for that. It was fascinating to see how the villlagers adapt to the extreme rises in water levels. And Tonle Sap lake is so big! The guide was great and gave us a quick history lesson about the Khmer Rouge regime which was great. We also loved playing with the little girl who was helping her Dad run the boat!

Excellent tour - 5 stars

This tour deserves its 5 star rating. There are many tours advertised for Tonle Sap but none beats this price, and it really contains all you need for a half day visit, including the visit of a local colorful market where they sell vegetables, meat, fish... and you get a big smile from the locals when you ask them for a picture. The guide was motivated, interesting and spoke good English. The tour by canoe for $5 is worth the money and you help the locals. This tourist not a tourist trap!

Floating Village Tour with SAN

My friend and I had a great time on our tour of Kompong Phluk and Tonle Sap Lake thanks to our tour guide, SAN. He had an extensive knowledge of the history of Cambodia and he always made sure we understood everything before moving on to another topic of discussion. After picking us up from our hotel, we headed towards the boat station which took about 45 minutes by car. On our boat ride through the floating village, you could see many unique housing structures that were built to accommodate the water levels during both the dry and wet seasons in Cambodia. Our trip took place during the dry season so a lot of the houses seemed higher above ground than usual. We visited a temple and also caught a glimpse of the schooling system in the village. Some students had the opportunity to attend English classes and we even had the time to have some quick conversations with a few of the students! Moving on, we visited the floating forest and keep in mind that the canoe ride through the mangroves is not included on the price of this tour (they do mention this in their trip overview). The cost of the canoe ride is $5USD per person and overall, it was a very enjoyable ride. We finished off our tour by taking a look at a crocodile farm, which was another unique experience. All in all, my friend and I throughly enjoyed our time on this tour and it would not have been possible without San and his accompanying driver. San’s passion and knowledge of Cambodian history is evident and we had a great time thanks to him!
