Itinerary

The guide will pick up you at 8 am from your hotel and we will start this day with exploring the temples of UNESCO listed Angkor National Park, the World Heritage site and it's the World Largest Religious Monument. Pay the entrance fee on your own account at the ticket office where we will stop for you to buy one and make your way with the guide to the first stop at Angkor Wat to visit the largest and most impressive of all Angkor temples, considered among one of the 7th Wonders of the World.

Angkor Wat was built between 1113-1150 AD and dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation. It's the best preserved of all the temples. Its layout and its scale are simply breathtaking, the wall surrounding the enclosure measures 1,000 by 800 meters and the moat, said to represent the oceans of the world is 200 meters wide. Angkor Wat is an architectural allegory of the mythical Mount Meru in the center of the world (Himalaya). This amazing temple homes the longest continuous bas relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls.

We also explore the Angkor Thom complex. Its vast walls, some 6m wide, 8m high and 13km in length contain many monuments. Inside the walls the king, his relatives and officials, military officers and priests took residence, the rest of the people lived outside of the great enclosure, between the two artificial lakes. Our visit will begin with the South Gate, a beautiful introduction to Angkor Thom with well-restored statues of Asuras (demons) and gods lining the bridge. Inside the complex, we will first visit the Bayon with 200 endless smiling faces. This temple mountain situated in the center of Angkor Thom City where sets the Bayon apart from many other Angkor monuments and we will continue to the Elephant Terrace, which owes its name to its outstanding depiction of these animals and the Terrace of Leper King, which presents a magnificent sculpture, popularly known as the leper king and then we continue the tour to Ta Phrom was a monastery built by the king Jayavarman VII as a residence for his mother as well as a school.

Ta Phrom has been controversially left to the destructive power of the jungle by French archaeologists to demonstrate the awesome power of nature. It has been largely consumed by the jungle and as you will climb through the dilapidated stone structures you will see many giant trees growing out of the top of the temple itself. At every turn you will expect to see Indiana Jones (Lara Croft) step out from behind a fallen pillar around you.

This tour concludes with return transfer to your hotel or any requested drop off point within the city center.

Angkor Wat

We did the sunrise at Angkor Wat with Mr. Van Lonh. After going back to our hotel for breakfast he picked us up and we visited the 3 main temples. Cold water was provided and Lonh was an amazing guide. Very casual, very knowledgeable, very kind. He’s great with camera angles too for the perfect picture. Would go again with Lonh.

Choub and Channa

Today we had a nice trip with Choub. He collected us from our hotel in spritely form. He is a lovely tour guide with lols and gags a minute. Cold water was never far away. He distinguished himself in a stand off with a monkey and safely retrieved my sunglasses. He was a force to be reckoned with. Also a gentleman. In addition to this, he showed us lovely photo opportunities and took some great pictures for us.

Fantastic tour!

Our private guide Choub first took us to a quiet spot of Angkor Wat, then off to the Bayon temple and finally to the temple where Tomb Raider was filmed. He was an extremely informative guide, but more importantly an expert photographer taking some stunning shots along the way. The temples are absolutely stunning and a must see when in Siem Reap. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Many thanks to Choub and the driver Channa.

Fantastic adventure!

The moment tour guide Nak and driver Khen picked me up from my hotel, I knew this was going to be a great day. Nak speaks excellent English and was keen to share his vast knowledge of the local area. And also very patiently answered my many questions! Our first stop was a vibrant local market at Rolous, 15km east of Siem Reap. Nak explained about the food and local customs, and it was most interesting. Then onto Kampong Phluk - a fishing village on Lake Tonle Sap. Since this is still dry season, we could walk through the village, with Nak explaining about local ways of life, pointing out (wet season) high water marks, birds, etc. It was not only interesting but very picturesque. Next we got onto a little local boat, down a tributary to the magnificent lake itself. It was wonderful to see local fisherman and floating restaurants - where we also had a break and a quick refreshment. On our way back to Siem Reap, Nak kept sharing information about Cambodian life, which I really appreciated. After a great lunch at a local restaurant, they dropped me back at the hotel. Siem Reap has so much more to offer than temples, and I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you Nak, Khen and Green Era travel for this fantastic adventure
