Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Still well worth the trip in Dry Season!

Had a great driver who slowed down for all the bumps, and an excellent tour guide, Nak, who knows the area well, and was able to answer questions, and provide lots of information, which made the trip even more enjoyable! I was picked up on time. The boat was ready and waiting for us. Nak allowed us to take as much time as we wanted on Ton Le Lake, and on the floating barge/restaurant, where I sat in a comfy deck chair, sipping a cold drink, and enjoying the view, and serenity of being out on the water. It was wonderful to not feel rushed. Afterwards, the walk through the village provided many more photo ops, and the chance to learn about their school programs, and other aspects of the villagers’ daily lives. Highly recommend this tour, and this tour company. Thank you Nak for a great afternoon!

Kompong Phluk & Tonle Sap Lake from Siem Reap

Very nice tour including a boat ride along the floating village of Kompong Phluk and visiting the village and seeing the daily life of local people. The lake ride was very refreshing ????. The biggest message I will take from this excursion is that life wins and persist, no matter the circumstances. One can flourish and be happy in variety different environments. Our guide Nak, shared his enthusiasm and unique view on life and good in people as well as some remarkable stories about the power of water and the ways locals still manage to live in the wet season. I warmly recommend this tour.

Cultural insights

Our guide knew his stuff, it was a great introduction into how the locals live. It must be said that if you go in the dry season only half the tour is on the river. The floating village/market part of the tour is a walk through. But our guide knew his stuff, and it came alive, meeting the locals, the children in school, listen to them practise their English with you, wonderful! The lake bit (second half of tour) you go out to the floating restaurants, where you can see crocodiles, (you can even feed them)! Doesn't cost too much! And other weird and wonderful animals reptiles and lake creatures... I was told you could possibly eat them too if you had the stomach for it!! ???????????? Watch the locals fishing as you have a bite to eat and a beer, then settle in for the short boat ride back. I haven't been in the Rainy Season, so couldn't comment on what that's like. Enjoy!

Great experience!

My partner and I had a wonderful time with Nak on a half day tour to Tonle Sap lake. The village on stilts was really cool to see, although it’s hard to see the village people living in poor conditions. Nak was a great guide, very informative and we had a great time!

Half day Kompong Phluk, Tonle Sap Lake.

My wife and I had a great trip with Nak, our guide. He was really knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. The tour itself was really interesting, stopping at a local market, before heading on the boat to visit the floating village and Tonle Sap. Despite it being the dry season we still had a great time and would recommend this very reasonably priced trip. Many thanks, Michael Violette.

People coping with life along the river

The river trip showed just how these amazing people cope with the different seasons . Their houses stand high above the river in the dry season, when we saw them. One can only imagine the amount of rain it must take for them to need to be above the water in the wet time. Fishing for little fish and oyster with nets is there livelihood. Tough life.

Very Memorable Tour with Great Guide.

Our visit to this village on stilts near the lake was very memorable and entirely worthwhile. Our guide, Sorphea, did a wonderful job. He was very knowledgeable about this unique area. He took us through a nearby street market and the sights and smells were unforgettable. The visit to the village might have been even better if it were during the wet season, but even this time of year, we were able to take a unique boat ride near the village and out on to the lake. This is an excellent tour for anyone visiting Siem Reap. This is a small group tour and Green Era Travel seems to be a very good choice. However, during participant pickups at the hotels, they have a policy that they will wait for ever, even if a participant is a no show. We waited a full 1/2 hour for a no show. This is unfair to other participants and should be limited to a 10 minute wait. But for this one complaint, I would have given this 5 stars.

Relaxing and eye opening tour

From scheduling through to the tour, the afternoon Kompong tour was great. Han, my tour guide, was great and spoke solid English. He gave a lot of history and cultural context during our drive to the lake and took a good amount of time describing what everyone in the community was doing. I kind’a lucked out with there being almost no tourist due to the coronavirus unwarranted scare. This area is far from a concern. And they could use the tourism. The water levels are well down below where they should be due to recent drought. But totally worth the visit and tour.

Wonderful day out

We really enjoyed visiting Kampung Phluk and see the typical day in the village. Whilst the poverty is apparent, we were met with smiles all over. I can’t help but wish they had more options and opportunities for health and education. We were delighted to see that this isn’t a tourist trap. No one tried to sell is anything. Just people going about their lives. The trip to Tonle Sap lake was also great. Sorphea is a great guide too. Very knowledgeable and enterrtaining. We had a great conversation.
