Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Back in Siem Reap, your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

Interessante Tour, super Guide

Very Interesting Trip with a Great Guide

We found this to be a very interesting tour seeing how people live an a Cambodian fishing village. The crocodile farm was interesting as well. Mr Nak who was our guide was very good about explaining everything about life in the village. It is a good thing to do if you are burned out on seeing temples Angkor Wat. My wife left her hat in the car and the driver was kind enough to return it to our hotel the next day. When I tried to give him a tip for returning it he wouldn't take it and simply said "it was his pleasure to return the hat." I was very impressed by that.

Best thing to do in Siem Reap

I was so thrilled to do this tour with my husband and Green Era. Our hosts were Marin (our guide) and Alan (driver). It’s dry season so the water was so low we made the venture down stream on a long tail boat which was fab and also meant the houses were on stilts and loomed high above us - something we wouldn’t have experienced in wet season. The actual village and school communities were on dry dusty streets which was like a movie set. Ahhh it was just brilliant and incredible to see how these families live. Marlin was full of info and a really friendly guy. Book with them it was incredible.

Nearly great experience

This tour offered a fascinating look into daily life of fisher families in these villages, as well as a short boat ride onto the lake. Be prepared for lots of very poor children running around you and asking for a dollar. We ended up on a floating restaurant in the lake, where the hope was to view the sunset, however it was a mostly cloudy evening. We all felt there was a bit too much time spent on the restaurant boat, given the lack of a sunset view. There were also women selling notepads and pencils in the village, and it was not clear at least to me why. Turns out they were for a village school. If our guide had explained that I would have bought some. Instead I donated $ into a box at the school. Overall thought it was a very good opportunity to see the way some rural people around Siem Reap are living and what the countryside looks like.

We enjoyed it!

This tour seems to be very different, depending on what season it is: we did it in the dry season, so there was not much water/lake. However, all the houses were high up on stilts, which also was an unusual experience. If you simply would like to see the houses and get to know something about the lake without having to endure lunch on some riverboat (e.g. “Queen Tara”), this is the tour for you!

Fantastic guide and a really memorable experience.

This has been the best part of our trip so far. The tour guide Bunchoub was so knowledgable and answered every question we threw at him. We have learnt more about Cambodian culture within 30 minutes of this tour than we have in our whole trip. We would recommend this to everyone, the tour was a really informative look at traditional Cambodians and although we went in high season, little to no tourists were about.

Many better things in Siem Reap

I gave 2 stars because the tour was well organised,?on time, funny guide ... but honestly, i know we are in Cambodia and waste management is not at its best but there is so much trash and plastic on the canals banks that it ruined it for me. It might be naive of me but I thought such community would live in harmony with their environment, well they don’t. (One boat even got stuck because of plastic entangled in its propeller) Other things bothered me as well, we are paying 21€for 3,5hours but we are still requested to give a tip to the boat driver, buy school supply, I felt taken advantage of. It also feels like a zoo or safari, we pay to see people live their life in, I believe, poverty. I have no idea how much of what we pay is actually going back to the community and the guide didn’t know either... I guess not much, even if I hope I am wrong Btw, at the dry season, the mater has a macchiato colour, seem to be a few meters lower than at the wet season, you can than see the structure of the houses but it won’t give the “floating” feeling In one word, a tourist trap that I would have gladly skipped, and if you are an environmentally conscious person, you should probably too
