Actually was only interested in the eleohants but i was only able to find the combo ticket. The noise and smoke from the boat engine in the hot sun were most distracting from the lake village. It took a while to shake it off. The elephant forest was much more exciting than expected. Petting the elephants and following them around the forest was amazing!

expensive but comfortable

Very friendly driver and a very spacious, comfortable minivan. The driver adapted our itinerary by taking us to a floating village (for an additional fee) and this excursion helped break up the long journey. After finding out that shared cars sometimes only large travellers $15pp, I felt we paid far in excess of the standard fare (>$300US)!!!

Exceptional tour guide.

Great tour of killing fields and museums. Our guide had relatives in the mass killings of the 1970’s so he has a personal touch to his comments. Pictures of the victims along with children are haunting.Royal place was closed for renovations.

Confronting.

A small group tour. . Very knowledgeable guide patiently explaining the reasons behind the conflict . Confronting, sad, but so worthwhile. We missed the palace and the silver pagoda on this tour as it was still closed. Slightly annoyed as we didn't find out till the tour started. . In hindsight after the genocide museum and the killing fields I think we were all glad to finish early.

Floating Village Experience

We debated giving this 3 or 4 stars, but ultimately settled at 4 because we believed seeing the floating village was a truly unique experience and fascinating view into a very different way of living and would recommend it. Seeing the floating homes was a highlight! Our guide Phy was very well meaning and extremely friendly. My wife and I were the only people on the tour and he was eager to show us his culture and the location. That said, we thought the tour had some opportunities to improve. Though Phy was very kind, he struggled a bit to explain certain things and by the end of the 7 hours we felt the language gap meant we missed a lot of interesting information. Second, each part of the tour felt a bit long - we wish we had a better sense of what the itinerary / timeline would be in advance. If we did it again, we’d ask to move things along a bit more. Third, were stopped on four occasions by locals to buy chips or drinks. They also kept asking us to buy ‘books for their children,’ but we were pretty convinced that the children were not benefitting from this and were told on separate tours and other guides that public education is free in Cambodia and not to buy from these sorts of sellers. At one point, while viewing a cool Pagoda in the floating village, one of these sellers interrupted our guide several times and we weren’t able to enjoy it. At the end, we felt fulfilled by the experience, but we were exhausted by the length of it, the heat, language barrier and aggressive vendors and glad to return to our hotel :)
