Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Back in Siem Reap, your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

Average experience only

Quite expensive (£40pp) for what you get. Punctual pickup at hotel in comfortable minibus (good). The guide seemed tired and there was a lot of waiting around at a bar/restaurant before seeing the sunset on the lake. The fishing village Kampong Phluk was interesting but you can see that for much less cost.

Morning Tour

Mr. Phy was a very friendly and informative guide. Wish I had more questions to ask because he was very knowledgeable. It was a great experience to see how people in the village live and get around day to day. October was a good month since the rain wasn't too bad but it did get pretty wet at two spots. We stopped by a local market and saw many produce and meat for sale. Mr. Phy helped us identify and explain how different items were used. We took the canoe tour through the Mangrove Forest and partially into the village. It was nice to see the structures up close and our canoe driver sang beautiful Khmer songs.

Learn about and experience Siem Reap intimately with Phy!

Such a fun filled day!! Our guide, Phy, is so knowledgeable about the day to day life of villagers in Siem Reap. He brought us out to see the markets, the floating village, a Buddhist temple, and stopped throughout the way to explain to us various foods, customs, and activities that were happening. Phy is very friendly with villagers too so it was nice to walk with him everywhere. Along the way, we also got to see rice paddies and buffalos and cows and the best part was an intimate small boat tour through the Mangrove forest. Thank you Phy ♥️ we will definitely be coming back next year for a longer trip!

Sad treatment of animals

It was interesting to see a different way of life. However the treatment of animals at many of the stops (all as gimmicks for tourists) was pretty horrific. Mammals in cages so small that they were all turning in 360s as fast as possible (literally driven mad) alligators and birds living in terrible conditions too (garbage filled cages , unable to move etc). Surely there are other ways to make a buck off of tourists that don’t equate to torturing mammals. The tour itself was basically a boat ride through the village, where you stop to see some of those animals, then you turn around and return back. Even without the torture it’s not worth it. If you want to give back to those communities, there are probably better ways to do so.

Great tour on floating village and mango trees

Sam is really a great guide. He will explain you everything you need to know about the visits, make sure you understand, and answer all your questions. His English is good. He is such a nice and caring person, and will make sure that you’re ok at any time. The tour itself was great, we were able to see the floating village and we had a boat ride between the mango trees. Sam was really careful and took all the precautions regarding Covid-19. I recommend doing this tour, and if you need a guide, ask for Sam!!!
