Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Back in Siem Reap, your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

Heartwarming experience

It all starts with the warm embrace Marin, your tour guide, gives you at your hotel pickup. Right off the bat, you can tell that youre going to be in the best of hands when you meet Marin and his great driver. He was so kind and welcoming. He was attentive, knowledgeable, kind and truly warming. He explains all that there is to do on our trip as we drive towards to the lake. Everything is taken care of and shows you nothing but beauty and raw views/moments of the Kompong Phluk people. The tour is amazing and easily humbling. It is now clear that when i return to siem reap (which i will 100%), Marin will be my only tour guide for whatever i do. His extensive work transcended to a good friend and he will forever be the person i go to in siem reap. I thank him and his people for all his hospitality. It will be forever appreciated.

A beautiful adventure

This was a very fun and educational adventure in Kompong Phluk. The guide and driver pick you up from your hotel, and begin your 45 minute drive to the boats. Our guide Lonh wasted no time to start the conversation and give a very nice insight into cambodian culture and history. It is a pretty awe inspiring scene when you arrive at the boats. There are literally hundreds of boats waiting for visitors. We were provided with a private boat, so there were only 5 of us total with the guide and boat driver. It takes nearly 20 minutes to arrive into the village, and Lonh continues to give some great insight into the culture of the people who call the lake home. Once you actually arrive, it is quite a beautiful place. It is something you have to experience for yourself, so I won't try to explain, but it is absolutely amazing and Lonh has lots to say about the place. Very knowledgeable. The entire trip, from pickup to dropoff is about 4 hours. And it is very beautiful, educational, and well worth the cost. I would recommend this to anybody visiting Siem Reap. Something totally different.

Interesting insight into floating village life

We learnt a lot on this tour about the life on water. It was a little shocking to see how families live in the floating villages. Our guide Wat was very knowledgeable however it is hard to hear over the boat engines. Whilst we enjoyed this day as we learnt a lot it was very touristy. We did the canoe ride in the mangroves and yes you are encouraged to tip the lady, we were happy to do so but gave her the tip directly. They are clearly very poor and trying to make a living. It was a good way to get a closer look into the life on water plus we saw monkeys!

Magical mangrove forest, awesome guide.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole tour. Local guide Sothea was funny and informative. The mangrove forest was truly magical. Just be prepared for "strong" encouragement to purchase in the middle of the forest! A perfect start to my time in Siem Reap

Beautiful day.

Great day on the water. Went in October and conditions were perfect. Vanlonh was a great, insightful guide. Half day timing lets you fit it in with other activities and was enough time.

Low expectations were exceeded

I had low expectations for this outing, as quite affordable when booked via trip advisor - $23/person. Trip was a great way to spend our morning before and afternoon departure. The outing would have just been ok, but guide Noy made it great, as his knowledge of the area and history made for an educational outing.

Tonle Sap and Kampong Phluk

Trip was about 4.5 hours in total. Air conditioned small coach collected us from the hotel and took us pick up a boat to Kampong Phluk. Option here to take a short trip into the forest on a small boat paddled by local women. We got off the boat and had a short walking tour where the guide explained about life there in the different seasons etc. Back on the boat and out onto Tonle Sap lake. Guide was very polite and knowledgeable throughout the trip. We were also given the option to stop for lunch at a local restaurant but others on the trip had to get back for flights. Well worth a trip as it takes you through the countryside and you get to see how people live and work outside of the city.
