Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Pleasant half door excursion of Kompong Phluk and Tonle Sap Lake

We are fortunate to have a very patience English speaking guide Mr. Borain to accompany us for this trip. He is very punctual and waited earlier than us at our hotel lobby for the morning pickup. The pick-up vehicle is a comfortable and clean 10-seater van. Adequate bottled mineral water is provided, and prepared chilled ! What a relief for us during the mid-year hot season ! Once in the van, Mr. Borain gave us an overview on the visit and some expectation and highlights. Though we could get most of the information about the visit online and from other reviewers, there is always some hidden jewel or insider tip on the visit. So be prepared to listen and ask. The local guide is more than happy to share those tip with you, which made us even more enthusiastic on the visit. The journey to Kompong Phluk is about 45 minutes, slightly out of the city and Angkor Wat area. But Mr. Borain was capable to keep the journey enjoyable by feeding us with many historical background and current development about the village. More importantly, we were made aware that part of the cost we paid for the tour is channeled toward the tourism development and education welfare of the needy children of that village. This is a win-win formula for a sustainable tourism model for any part of the world. The best part of our visit is the low tourist season durng mid-year, which relieved us from the long queue and crowd during the boat ride. This has also allowed us to take as many photos during the trip without any rush. Mr. Borain has been very kind to help us as a photographer when we need to take a family or group photo at certain memorable locations or highlights throughout the visit. One important tip for any tourist visit from the end of May to the month of June, please bring along some light rain coat or umbrella due to the raining season. Otherwise it would be very hot, humid and dusty for most part of the year. Wear a comfortable walking shoes with light comfortable clothing would be suffice for most part of your visit in Seam Reap. Finally, our heartfelt thanks to our capable guide Mr. Borain for his proficiency in English and his patience in leading the tour. Well done to him !

Relaxing Tour of Village and Lake

If you have spent a gruelling day in the sun at the temples then this is the perfect way to relax and enjoy a trip into the countryside around Siem Reap and see how local people live. We were collected at our hotel and driven for approx 40 minutes to the river where we boarded a small boat. This transported us along the river, past the floating village and out to the vast Tonle Sap Lake. On the return journey we walked through village and back to our minibus. The whole experience was relaxing and very interesting. Our guide, mr Van Lonh was extremely knowledgable and entertaining. He explained the local history and climatic conditions which lead to the need for floating villages. Altogether a most enjoyable morning. Would highly recommend

Tonle Sap Lake 1/2 day Tour

The tour was very nice and casual, we got to see a different side of Siem Reap, away from the temples. Every local we saw was extremely friendly and there was never any pressure to buy or donate anything outside of our tour package. Seeing the community of house on stilts was very interesting and we got to take a lot of cool pictures. Mr. Van Lonh was our tour guide and he was extremely knowledgeable with fluent English skills. He answered all our questions about the area, the people, and the Cambodian countryside. He was a great facilitator to the village, and was patient and respectful with us and the locals we encountered. My only complaint was that the tour was not longer. Great experience!

Very pleasent tour

2 of us went for the morning tour (early Jun) as the sun is just nice and not too hot. Preperation Suggestions: 1. The hotel pick up is on-time and within the pick up window (1 hour pick up window), I suggest get all the things packed and bring it with you, notify the front desk your room number, name and name of Green Era Travel when you have your breakfast, once the tour guide arrived, he will liaise with the front desk. 2. Check if your hotel is on Google Map, if not, do add the full address and hotel contact number when you purchase the tour as there are lots of new hotels in Siem Reap in recent years Tour Comments: The tour is very flexiable, along the way when we have questions or noticed any interesting things, they slowed down the canal and explained/ allowed us to take photos. We were amazed by the view of lake (as if the sky and the lake was linked) and we enjoyed the walking tour in the village very much, our tour guide, Borain, shared a lot of Cambiodian villages traditional practices and religion. The tour is very fruitful, we are glad that we decided to go on the tour.

Excellent change of pace tour

We made this tour as a last minute decision and are very glad we did! Our guide Phearom was incredibly knowledgable about about Siem Reap and Kompong Phluk and was eager to answer any question we had in well-spoken English. When one member of the tour was less aware about the Khmer Rouge, the guide was incredibly patient and informative in explaining the history. Overall the tour was certainly different from the traditional temples, etc. and very eye-opening as to how people in more rural areas of Cambodia live. Tonle Sap Lake was incredible to see as we looked out across the lake (which you cannot see the other side) and it looked like the edge of the world. Visiting a floating shop for around 20 minutes was cool to see as well. The tour ended with us walking through the village and visiting the Buddhist temple in the village. Logistically, pickup was at about 7:50 straight from our hotel, even when we booked the night before! The van was comfortable and they provided bottles of water. The guide provided a bunch of recommendation for places to eat after the tour and dropped us off at one of the restaruants (which was delicious as well). Overall, we are very glad we decided to go on this tour as it was eye-opening and truly an interesting change in pace to the bars, restaurants, and general tourism your experience in Siem Reap. Highly, highly recommend.
