Itinerary

Begin your adventure with pickup from your Siem Reap hotel for the roughly 45-minute journey to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the season, you’ll travel by minibus (February to July) or by minibus and boat (August to January). Transfer to a small boat and set sail along the lake, passing stilted houses and schools, floating markets, pagodas, and fishing boats as your guide tells you more about local life, customs, and traditions.

Wet-season visitors can also opt to enjoy a traditional canoe ride around the flooded forests (for an additional expense) and experience the region’s unique ecosystem as you glide between the semi-submerged trees.

Back in Siem Reap, your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

Fantastic

I joined this tour with my daughter 8yrd. This tour is fantastic to know the lifestyle in the floating village. It's different from other areas. During the rainy season, all houses and community buildings looked floating on the lake. You can see the daily life of people traveling by boat and catching fish. My daughter was surprised how their ordinary days were different from ours. We also joined the optional tour riding on the small boat in mangrove trees. But, again, only the natural sounds, birds, water, and frogs croaking surrounded us. Our tour guide, Mr. Nuk, was also excellent. His story about the history of the lake was interesting. Moreover, he took care of my daughter nicely. I believe this tour is safe and educational. Next time, I'd like to join it again during the dry season.

Awesome tour with Phy!

We had a great time and can really recommend the tour. We heard so many bad things about the floating villages but this was a great tour. Phy was a great guide and he knew a lot about the the villages and was a pleasure to be around. He and the driver were great

Chance to see rural Cambodia before it changes

A chance to see the rural part of Cambodia. It is a good idea to see it during the rainy season, when you can see how the water and rains affect the entire life and livelihood of the people here (and also get to take a ride on a homemade canoe though the mangroves). There are also opportunities to directly support the locals by donating to the local school, buying snacks. My guide Phy (and driver Mr. Savry) was excellent - pointed out many interesting sights, answered all questions, was on time, and spoke very good English. Thank you!

Fantastic floating fun

Great tour to a local village market on the way to the floating village. Our guide Nak, was awesome. He was full of knowledge and information about everything and was so friendly. If you want to see the real Cambodia then this tour gives a nice slice of actual life in the countryside.

Floating gem

Nak was a brilliant tour guide and gave us a personal experience of the local market before we went to the boat for the floating village. The boat was a small local boat and a very authentic ride He answered all my questions and more. The local villagers were so welcoming and more than happy for us to watch them cooking fishing and going about general life. I learnt a few Cambodian words and no point we were pressured to buy items. I did buy fruit for myself. The Lake is a breathtaking sight so big. We went to the floating crocodile restaurant. I had bbq crocodile on a skewer and it was beautifully cooked. Ok the crocodiles are farmed in small cages but it’s a cultured way of life and I respect that. Air conditioned vehicle small group and fresh water all included with hotel pick up. Would definitely recommend this as a trip to do.

Floating Village experience

Yet another wonderful experience with our tour guide Nak. We explored the local culture, along the largest lake in SEA. We met some lovely kids and saw a lot of adorable cats. Would recommend checking this place out, to get a glimpse on a different lifestyle.

Another wonderful day with Mr Kao - Siem Reaps best English speaking tuk tuk driver

We had the loveliest day with Siem Reaps best English speaking tuk tuk driver Mr Kao (you can find him on Tripadvisor) exploring this breathtakingly gorgeous lake, the submerged forest and meeting the locals. The boat ride was very pleasant and make sure you take the time to go for a paddle through the forest - we saw a monkey, a non venomous snake, lizards and lots of snails. Even if you don't see many animals, there is something quite lovely in this incredibly tranquil haven compared to the energy of village life, and it's nice to think that you can support the older ladies in the village. As always, the tuk tuk drive to Tonle Sap Lake was refreshing and very pretty. Mr Kao is always happy to stop and answer questions, take photos, find the best toilet and most delicious local food. Such a great day (PS don't forget your sunscreen & hat)

Tour of the Great Lake of Cambodia and floating village

Great tour to see the river and lake, amazing to see how people live in houses on stilts I highly recommend this tour to see a different element of Cambodian life. We also did the canoe through the freshwater mangroves which was lovely and peaceful. Our tour guide Chanthorn was very informative and spoke great English, also highly recommended. (Note it’s not a floating village but a village on stilts, we did see floating houses also along the tour).
